With reference to Mr. Read's letter of the 5th

instant (41764/1913), relating to the proposed reallocation

of the authorised note issue of the Chartered Bank of India,

Australia and China, I am directed by the Lords Commissioners

of His Majesty's Treasury to transmit to you herewith, for

the information of Mr. Secretary Harcourt, a copy of a letter

of to-day's date which They have caused to be addressed to

the Directors of the Bank on the subject.

My Lords would be glad if the letter in question

could be included in the correspondence of which copies are

being sent to the Colonial Authorities.
